Accompanying person’s program

Every night, from August 20 until August 24, a pub at Norrlands student nation in central Uppsala will be open for the congress delegates and accompanying persons. On August 20, the pub will be open 19.00-24.00. On August 21-24 the pub will be open 20.00-24.00.

Welcome Reception, August 20, 18.00-20.00
The Welcome Reception takes place in the botanical garden of Uppsala. Drinks and a light buffet will be served.

This event is included in the registration fees of participants, students and accompanying persons.

Guided Tour of Uppsala, August 21, 10.00-12.00

A walking tour of central Uppsala including visits to the Cathedral and to Museum Gustavianum, the university museum with the Anatomical Theathre.

The tour is included in the accompanying persons fee.
Accompanying persons are automatically registered for the guided tour.

Excursions, August 23

Option 1: Boat trip to Skokloster Castle, 14.00-19.30
A trip on m/s Kung Carl Gustaf, along the winding river Fyris to the Skokloster Castle by the lake Mälaren.

Price: SEK 975 including boat trip, entrance and guided tour of the castle, dinner and coffee on the boat.

Option 2: Guided tour to Stockholm and the Vasa Museum 14.00-20.00
An afternoon trip to the capital of Sweden with sightseeing around the city, a guided tour of and dinner at the Vasa Museum.

Price: SEK 875 including coach, guide, entrance at the Vasa Museum and dinner at the Vasa Museum.

Option 3: Guided tour to Stockholm and the Nobel Museum 14.00-20.30
An afternoon trip to the capital of Sweden with visits to the Old Town, a guided tour of the Nobel Museum, time for shopping and dinner at ”Myntkrogen”.

Option 4: Tour to the Wallon ironworks in Uppland, 14.00-20.00
A guided bus tour to Lövstabruk, one of the Walloon ironworks for visiting the natural history collection and the 18th century library at the manor house of Lövstabruk. Afterwards we continue by bus to Österbybruk, another Walloon ironwork, for dinner at the Restaurant Gammel-Tammen, next to the manor house.

Price: SEK 525 including coach, guide, entrances and dinner at Gammeltammen restaurant.

Option 5: The dangerous flowers of Linnaeus, 14.00-18.30
Received truths were challenged in the 18th century. Linnaeus questioned the belief that the number of species had remained unchanged since the beginning of time. The finding of a flower-form mutant of toadflax (Linaria vulgaris) suggested to Linnaeus that new species can be formed in nature through hybridization. Several years later, Linnaeus would himself create an new hybrid in a controlled cross between two species of Tragopogon.

On this field trip, we will visit Linnaeus’ country residence outside Uppsala. You will be able to walk in the footsteps of the famous botanist, and contemplate the mysterious flower-form mutant, which is still kept in culture. We will also have a short walk along one of Linnaeus seven excursion paths.

Banquet at Uppsala Castle, August 25, 19.00

The conference banquet will be held at Uppsala Castle, which dates back to the 16th century and has been the site of numerous historical and sometimes bloody events. The conference banquet will be a three-course gourmet dinner in the magnificent Hall of State, where Queen Christina of Sweden abdicated her throne about 350 years ago, in June of 1654.
